My first ever film photos – Lara Photography
Today I’ve reached a milestone I never knew I wanted to even reach prior to a few weeks ago. I was able to see the developed film scans from my first ever film roll, which was taken this past Saturday at the Lara Jade Workshop in Brooklyn, NY.
After 6-7 years shooting solely digitally, I’ve gotten to the point where I feel comfortable enough venturing out and shoot film, more specifically Medium Format Film. I was truly nervous, to say the least, of shooting my first roll of film. Mostly because of the lack of & instant feedback you get with digital LCD’s. I was left to completely trust the fundamentals I’ve learned of taking a properly exposed photo.
After taking the 16th shot and hearing the roll automatically rewind itself, I felt exhilarated. I’ve reached yet another accomplishment in becoming a better photographer as I see it. I’ve embraced the challenge (well perceived challenge in my mind) of going old school so to speak and shooting with a film. All I can say is that after this first experience I can say that I’m in love with my Mamiya 645 AFD. I will certainly be shooting more film from this point on.
I’ve included below all 16 shots from my first roll and you can see the first few frames I was nervous and shot some behind the scene stuff like the model being prepped and getting ready.
